Studio Manager Position

This role is a part-time Studio Manager position, assisting Los Angeles-based artist Iman Person and Orí Archives, LLC. The Studio Manager will collaborate directly with Iman Person at her studio located in Santa Monica, CA. This position offers a flexible hybrid model of in-person and remote work for the appropriate candidate. The job commences with a commitment of 2-3 days a week, up to 10 hours, with flexible scheduling. 

 

About Orí Archives

ORÍ ARCHIVES, created by Los Angeles-based creative and curator Iman Person, is dedicated to honoring and preserving the untold histories of individuals impacted by the African diaspora and our first-generation allies. Through discourse, shared experiences with the earth, cultural mindfulness, and deep connections to our ancestors - both human and non-human - ORÍ ARCHIVES seeks to nurture and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our communities. 

Experience

  • A flexible, creative thinker with a keen eye for detail

  • The ideal candidate has commensurate experience working in an established artist's studio or contemporary art gallery/and or management experience within the arts, or as a personal assistant 

  • Ability to focus on quality while performing repetitive tasks

  • Good organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

  • Knowledge of contemporary art and art vernacular preferred

  • Experience with Quickbooks and artist inventory software preferred

  • Experience with SketchUp or other modeling software a plus

  •  Experience developing and maintaining detailed databases, artwork archives, or inventory systems

  •  Ability to edit and write artist statements, press releases, and media communications to/from galleries, institutions, publications, and collectors

  • Interest in assisting in growing the reach and breadth of an emerging artist’s practice

  • Based in Los Angeles, CA with a source of reliable transportation. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain artist’s online and physical archives in collaboration with galleries, private collectors, and museums

  •  Art handling, storing, and shipping

  •  Support the artist by managing studio administration and email correspondence

  •  Coordinate all administrative aspects of upcoming shows and projects

  •  Edit artist statements, press releases, and research as needed

  •  Order materials and manage outside vendors/fabricators as needed

  •  Hire and train interns and freelancers

  •  Light record-keeping and bill-pay

  •  Develop and maintain systems for tracking project production & and costs

 

Salary

Pay commensurate with experience is $20-$25/ hour. This is flexible a part-time position, up to 10 hours a week. This position is primarily remote, with times that you will be needed at the artist’s studio located in Santa Monica, CA. Currently, Orí Archives cannot offer benefits but hopes to do so in the future. Additional opportunities for acquiring artwork annually will be offered as you grow with the studio.
